As we are moving into spring the sun is beginning to show its face and it got me thinking about how our diet can help our skin. I have found 5 foods that can help us protect against sun damage, but remember physical protection from the sun is vital – read my sun protection blog here.
1. Dark Chocolate
Fantastic news for all you chocoholics like me out there! Dark chocolate contains antioxidants that help protect our skin from sunburn and skin cancer…so get eating! Only one square a day though!
2. Tomatoes
As you may or may not know tomatoes are packed with Lycopene which not only helps to neutralise the harmful effects of UV rays but it can also help prevent your skin from ageing. We found this amazing soup recipe -which is kind to our skin and our thighs!
3. Green Tea
Ok not technically a food but one of our favourite miracle teas over at LYS HQ, green tea has been proven to block DNA damage that is caused by UV light. Along with boosting your immune system and helping to keep your skin clear who needs any more reasons to switch to green tea today!
4. Red Peppers
It may surprise some of you but peppers are actually stuffed with capsiate an antioxidant which has been proven to decrease the skin damage caused by those nasty UVB rays.
5. Pomegranate
This glorious fruit contains hundreds of juicy seeds just bursting with polyphenols which help to protect you from UVA and UVB rays. Luckily most supermarkets sell the seeds in a handy premade pack but for tips on how to eat straight from the fruit check out this blog post. We love this ingredient so much we put it in our Brightening & Clarifying Serum.
Hopefully this has encouraged you to love your skin from the inside out and don’t forget if you do feel the burn our Collagen Moisturising Body Gel is the perfect antidote.
